Development of a Financial Centre in Maldives

CMDA is working with relevant international institutions to develop a Financial Centre in the Maldives as per the instruction of the President's Office. In this regard the CMDA lead delegation visited the key institutions in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) which includes the key regulatory authority, Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA) and NASDAQ Dubai in July 2009.

The recommendations of the delegations includes a request to the Government of Maldives to work on incentives that can be given to the potential investors.

Typical incentives includes the following:

  • 100% foreign ownership
  • Reduced  tax rates and other tax benefits
  • No restrictions of foreign exchange
  • Freedom to repatriate capital and profit without restrictions
  • International standards of regulations and governance
  • Contemporary facilities and operational support
CMDA believes there is good potential for the development of a vibrant Financial centre in the Maldives. For further information, please contact CMDA.
