Investor education and market awareness programs are conducted by the Investor Education and Training Section of the Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA).
The purpose of Investor Education Programs are to sensitize the Maldivian population on the objectives of developing a fully fledge stock exchange, the nature and the type of tradable instruments, market intermediaries such as brokers, investing in the market and the role of the regulator and the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme. CMDA considers the participation and awareness of all stakeholders, government, business community, financial community, the press and the media as crucial for the development of the Capital Market and the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme.
Figure 1.1 shows that 14923 people have participated in the awareness programs conducted by CMDA. The diagrams below depict a segment analysis of people who participated in the investor education programs from the year 2000 to 2011.

The main objectives of the Investor Education and Awareness Programs are as follows:
- To give information to the public on the role of CMDA as a regulator of pension and capital markets and its role in protecting investors.
- To sensitize and promote importance of saving and investing.
- To sensitize and promote the advantages of going public.
- To assist and support government and private sector companies wishing to raise finance from the capital market.
- To give information on new capital market products and services.
- To give information on new investment opportunities in the area of capital market so as to encourage institutional building.
- To promote and develop an efficient capital market.
To achieve the above objectives the following services are provided by the CMDA:
- Seminars & workshops to the market players and general public.
- Presentations on selected topics relating to Capital Markets and Pension.
- Trainings to build capacity through Capital Market & Corporate Governance Institute (CMCGI) & Institute of Corporate Directors & Secretaries (ICDS).
- Brochures, booklets and other research reports related to securities market, and retirement pension scheme.
- Market awareness programs targeted to young investors (eg: Spelling Bee Competition, essay competitions & quiz competition).
- School presentations, field visits and trips to outer Islands.
